MY YOGA JOURNEY

Yes!!! I Found Yoga!

I discovered yoga in 2003 when I was 28 years old. I was a new mom of two, working full-time. It seemed everything I did outside of work was either with or for my children. I was not prioritizing my own self-care. Needless to say, it led to a great deal of stress and overwhelm.

My first experience with yoga was on VHS tape. I looked forward to that time every day. It left me feeling so nourished, so in-touch with something...something that was pure peace. I then practiced at my local YMCA and soon found a small studio that became my yoga home for many years. It was here that I trained in traditional Hatha yoga.

A Better Me!

What I found through yoga was that I was better able to manage life. Finally, I was beginning to go with the flow of life instead of against it. This meant less stress and overwhelm. It led me to be a better mom, wife, friend..a better human being!

I studied a lot and had a very strong physical practice for quite a while. Then I began spending time away from practice, for periods of time that were too long. I always came back. What I discovered was that life was better when I practiced. What I cultivated on the mat extended into life off the mat. I had so much more to give...more love to give.

Obstacle Or Opportunity?

Fast forward to 2021...I was living with pain that had become chronic along with neuropathy and balance issues. Life for me was suddenly unpredictable, filled with anxiety and panic attacks. Sleep grew difficult. I spent a lot of time in doctors' offices and physical therapy, trying to mend and understand what was happening in my body.

I turned to my yoga practice but not a very physical practice. Instead the focus was on breathwork and systematic relaxation along with some warm-ups and restorative postures. Over time, I was able to come back to a gentle physical practice.

I've learned that what we often see as obstacles in life are actually opportunities in disguise. They offer us the opportunity to rise up, to grow, and get to know ourselves even better.

Yoga And Healing

What I find most profound about yoga though, is that the practice is so rich and multi-faceted that it doesn't matter who you are or what you're going through, yoga is accessible. It is very healing to the body, mind, and spirit. It offers us freedom from whatever is limiting us.

Yoga has become my way of life. It's a practice that meets me where I am each and every day. It allows me to really tune in and practice based on what I need in the moment. The result is...I feel better in my body and the pain, stress, and anxiety is better managed.

My experience with yoga is why I teach today. I want you to know that you don't have to live in the grip of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, aches, pain, or even chronic pain. Yoga is here for YOU!
